It seems that 2016 really is shaping up to be the year of virtual reality porn. I reported just a couple of weeks ago about the release date (and price) of the Oculus Rift tech and how people were kind of freaking out about it (but really shouldn’t be), as well as new “porn hologram.” Well, today I’m going to add to ever-growing list of 2016 news about VR porn with the announcement of a new partnership between Kiiroo and BaDoinkVR that combines a virtual reality experience with one of the top male masturbation tools on the market. Oh, and this one comes with a really awesome twist that makes it not solely about wanking. (Although, yes, also about wanking.)
Sex tech journalist Joseph Viney reports via Future of Sex that this new partnership is aiming to bring the experience of virtual reality porn even closer to, well, reality sex. BaDoinkVR will provide the videos that will sync with Kiiroo’s bestselling male masturbation sleeve, the Onyx with Fleshlight. That means that viewers will not only feel immersed through the 180° and 360° perspective provided by the VR viewer but that they’ll actually be able to feel the action via the Onyx.
“With all the new VR innovations this year, we’ll see the audience grow exponentially in 2016,” said Todd Glider, CEO, CM Productions and BaDoinkVR in a joint press release from the two companies. “BaDoink has always been a pioneer in the VR space, and our partnership with Kiiroo underscores our continued commitment to driving the evolution of the category, making it the highest-quality immersive and interactive experience possible, and striving ultimately to envelop the consumer in an experience that achieves telepresence.”
Well Mr. Glider, I’m so on board with your evolution.
The two companies promise that the videos they provide will be top of the line, starring major porn talent. And in what I think is a really cool move, they’ll not only be making videos for titillation but for sex ed as well. BaDoinkVR is committing to creating sexual instructional videos for users who are interested in upping their game in the bedroom. But don’t worry — these aren’t the creepy/dry videos you were forced to watch in health class as a kid. The BaDoinkVR sex ed videos will draw people in with the promise of being able to try out the action via the Kiiroo, turning sex ed into something that actually sexy and fun. What a concept! Considering how many people already use porn as de-facto sex ed, this is an innovative, interesting way to help people learn actual skills instead of simply mimicking the unrealistic pounding/spitting/cum shot tropes of mainstream porn.
So while I’m pumped in general about this partnership, I’m especially pumped about those educational videos because no matter how you feel about porn, there’s no denying that it’s here to stay — and only getting more popular. Hats off to Kiiroo and BaDoink for taking steps toward making porn not only titillating but also useful and, potentially, society-changing. We need more companies like that!
